Well-written; well-said; and, I cannot find any fault to what you have aptly shared. We have gifts and with gifts, intelligence, and good lucky breaks comes RESPONSIBILITY. I feel that those of us who have been successful owe much of our success to the people who came before us and made that road easier to travel... and, likewise, we are to ease the burdens for those who come after us as they will have other issues, challenges, and problems to solve. Maybe the rub is not that we are self-reliant (as you stated, few of us are truly start with nothing and not benefit from the helping hand of others) but that we do not squander those gifts and we do not sit back and wait for "others to lead." We have a responsibility to ourselves and others. Dr. Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs has surprisingly held up well over these years; reaching self-actualization is a mind-set probably more than anything else.
